Review of Extraordinary Classic in Black Art with Color Pazazz

I picked these two pieces of art because they are so colorful and vibrant. Lee Grissett is known for his vibrant and emotional style. Lee has written about is style of art as saying: "My art style has evolved over the years, as does the ambivalent mind of creative souls, yet the themes of overcoming struggle, love, motherhood, fatherhood, and thought-provoking positive images always find their way to my canvas."

With that being said, I'd like to critique

New Obama Black Art Video Part 1

I just completed a video for Obama. I used black art from different forms and different black artists to compiled this video. I wanted to see what type of art was out there that's being creating for and about Obama. I found plenty and there were so many that I will have to make a little series. This is part 1 of the Obama Black Art. I think you all will like it. Leave a comment and let me know what you think about it.

How Tyler Perry Inspired Me to Keep My Dream

How Tyler Perry Inspired Me to Keep My Dream for Black Art Gallery

When I saw a clip from Tyler Perry's studio opening I was truly inspired. He has always inspired me to the core with his movies, plays and now the studio opening. He has such a vision for success and not just the success for himself but to help lift up new and up and coming Black actors of African American decent. He gets a lot of flack about his style of characters like "Madea" but the christian basis for his films and plays is what makes a profound impact on me.

Tyler Perry is not ashamed or afraid to praise God through is work because he knows from whence he's come. The Bible says that Jesus told His people: "If you are ashamed of me, I'll be ashamed of you". Through and through, He's never comprised his love and faith in God for the fame and wealth he acquires. I sure hope he remains as humble as he continues to move up because whether people really want to admit it or not, this is why many people love his work.

The reason why love Tyler Perry so much is because he reminds me of myself. My childhood may have been different from his, but I live everyday of my life in dedication to God. I want to open my art gallery on for me and for status and fame, but for other African American artists that need a place that we can call our own. I have been an artists for over 30 years but I want to expose the passions of black artists in my gallery because I love the culture of our art so much.

My work and life is the foundation of a solid rock that I can not deny or ignore. When I heard about Tyler Perry making negotiations with Hollywood about whether he can mention the word "Jesus" in his sitcom "The House of Payne", I wasn't surprised. Hollywood wants to make and mold African Americans as well as everyone else to change their art form into what they want. Would a person sell their soul, just to please Hollywood? Well, Tyler wouldn't budge. He decided not to make a deal until he could settle under his terms. And as you know, he agreed on terms he could live with on the TBS network. (If you haven't noticed, he uses the word "Jesus" and other christian terms on his show).

This is something that I would not compromise as well. There is nothing that would make me abandon my Savior.

So, Tyler Perry with his beautiful studio ground has inspired me to do more with my life and my dreams. There is no reason why anyone can't make their dreams dome true if they really want them to exists.

I Remember What Poverty Taught Me

I was very grateful to be able to take part in this day for poverty awareness. I have a story to tell that instantly came to mind when I heard about Blog Action Day.

I remember driving near a lake in my hometown and seeing a homeless couple sitting on a bench. It wasn't a normal evening. It was a very rainy day. Just imagine them sitting on that bench with one umbrella between them that was half broken. This truly struck a cord inside of me.

So I pulled over to a little distance away from them. I had grabbed my umbrella out of the back seat of my car, along with a face of a watch I kept with in my car that I cherished.

As I walked around the bend to meet them, I was shocked to see how many people literally drove by as if they did not exist. As I approached them, I said hello. They couldn't believe I was speaking to them. The man and woman where apprehensive and seem offended. To this day I don't remember what I said to them, but I handed them my umbrella and watch. They smiled and were genuinely grateful for the hand-me-down gifts they received. I asked them if I could buy them something to eat. They were once again leery to respond but shook their heads in acceptance.

So I went to the closest McDonald's and bought them both value meals. I remember being frustrated because the drive-thru line was pretty long. I did not want the couple to leave in disappointment. I rushed it back to them as soon as I could. When I handed them the food, I wish you could have seen the looks of surprise and gleam on their faces. It would have drowned your heart in tears as it did for me.

As we all shared smiles and love between strangers, I told them I loved them and I would be praying for them. When I left them that day I felt so full and grateful for what God had done for me that day.

Though I tried to meet with them again around that lake, I never saw them again. I still wonder if they are ok. Did they every get off the streets?

This wasn't just an act of kindness for me, it was where I could have been. You see, when I saw that homeless couple at the lake that day, I was driving my car and I had a job. But we had something very similar in common. As it was obvious that they were homeless, so was I. Just months earlier, I lost my place of residence and was living in my car.

As I remember, I felt guilty being able to eat and have some sort of shelter when I saw 'real', non-working, not-a-penny to their name homeless people. I literally loved them more than I loved myself.

From time to time, I'd be depressed about my situation. But thanks to God, He would remind me of the homeless couple and I would realize once again that I was truly blessed. I had no reason to be depressed. There were so many other people in worst conditions.

So I would not fall back into my selfishness, I would give to the 'real' homeless ones as much as I could and I still do today. It is the most fulfilling thing any human being can do for another.

Ultimately, God pulled me through it all and after 1 1/2 years of living in my car, I was able to find a place to live and the rest is history. But you all know what was really important, right?

Oakland Artist- April Banks at Guerilla Cafe

April Banks' Oakland African American artist at Guerilla Cafe

I just got news about an extraordinary bay area black artist from my hometown, Oakland that is doing some great things in Cali. I visited her website and viewed all of her work. Oakland is known for many extraordinary black artists and African American art. I especially liked the her "Chocolate" series which was on display as the "Free Chocolate" exhibition at in the city of San Francisco, Ca.

Now she'll be doing a piece for Guerilla Cafe' in Berkeley. Her name is April Banks. This is what her opening reception is all about and described as:

{"crushed" is an installation of manipulated paper by Oakland artist, April Banks. She uses crushed, torn, sewn and folded paper to create undulating and amorphous forms.}

Guerilla Cafe will have another one of their 'cafe originals' for African American artists and here are the details:

New Jamaican Posters-Black Art Available

New Jamaican Posters-Black Art Available

My good friends over at Jamaicans.com have a great website full of black artists from Jamaica. I have subscribed to a great Jamaican newsletter at Jamaicans.com  and I always get the best and freshest black art news on whats happening at the island to its technological world.

They do so much in the line of exposure for not only Jamaican artists but black artists they do business with. they are very informed and forthright about African American issues and how African American artists are affected.

I received information about some new posters they have advertised.

I checked out the website and there's some great posters and black art work of Bob Marley, Landscape, Beaches and People.

If you like Jamaica and its culture of black art, see what wonderful things they have.

It will literally make you feel like you are right there soaking up the sun and love of Jamaica.

Black Artist Submission to ExViGalleries...Act Now

We are NOW accepting submissions from African American artists for consideration to be exhibited in the our upcoming African American art gallery, Ex Vi Gallery! We are expecting up to 100 black artists to submit their art, so don't hesitate!

DEADLINE:  To Be Announced

For Phase One, we are asking for the following:

Contact us at exvigalleries@aol.com requesting for us to view black art via your website.

The subject line MUST state "Artist Submission". New black art may be submitted by email via MS Word attachment but limit them to 3 pieces. Please make sure photos sent via email are not too large because they take too long to download. We prefer to receive them in a zip folder. (This is not a substitute for not having a website).

We prefer all artists to have a website. (See details below if you don't have a website)

-All web pages should include but not limited to: biography, collection of black art, press coverage, itinerary and contact pages with phone numbers and addresses.
-Collection of art pieces should be no less than 6 shown on website.

-A deliverable email address is required.

Black Artists in Demand

*All artists should have a website for our staff to view. This allows us to view it at no cost to the artist rather than to have pictures mailed to us that cost the artist to send and forces us to charge a viewing fee. Please keep in mind that artists with web sites will be considered first. You may also email photos of six or more photos in lieu of having a web site.

We are in search of established African American artists in North America and all over the world.

We will also accept artists that are up and coming with art background and references.

Economy Tried to Kill Black Art Gallery Opening

Economic Recession Tried to Kill Black Art Gallery Opening

Many of you know about us from ExpressiveVisions.com since 2005. We have been through many changes since then. Our goal to open our African American art gallery back then was scheduled for Fall 2008 and then it was pushed back.

Our website dedicated to black art and black artists is temporarily down for maintenence and a new interactive look and functionality. It will reopen soon.

Well, life happens and with the slow economy, we had no choice but to postpone it. Many of our affiliates and other black artists encountered struggling impacts due to economic stress as well. This  is our time to re-focus our plans and we will all meet in the middle very soon. This African American art gallery will come to pass.

We know many black artists and friends contacted us with concern. We truly appreciate your concern and prayers. The dream of opening an African American gallery is not dead just delayed. So, with that being said, it will happen.

Join our feed and keep up with what we will be doing.

About Our Founder- Black Art Enthusiast

President of Expressive Visions and Ex Vi Galleries, Tina M. Phillips is a passionate woman for the arts and humanity. She had the gift of art from a child at age 8 years old. She was exposed to art and the arts by many family members and teachers throughout her life. Her father Sam Phillips who is a retired aircraft painter, writer and poet, instilled in her the importance of the subjects English and Speech. He inspired her by taking her to theatre plays, museums and concerts in her hometown of Oakland, Ca. Her mother, Beverly Phillips-Richardson was the strong parent figure in her life that instilled in her strength, perseverance and the insisted in her parochial school education for 12 years.

She was also blessed by her godfather, Hubert Collins who increased her interest in the arts by taking her to the opera, plays, local black art studios and art galleries and providing her with art supplies. Ms. Phillips was further thrust into the field of art when she learned of her late cousin, Charles Morris and his extraordinary talent in painting and drawing in the 1980's.  Even her brother Lavelle has a great talent in art.

In her high school years at prestigious parochial school Holy Names High School in the Oakland Hills of Oakland, Ca., she excelled in the arts. She learned how to play the cello, piano and mostly grew her passion for drawing, painting and sculpting. She earned the respect of her peers and teachers when her art was displayed in the school hallways with drawings including a dynamic self-portrait. Her art teachers encouraged her to pursue this career in art. Portrait painting and drawing is her specialty.

After high school, she attended Laney College in Oakland, Ca. where she majored in art. She attended many other colleges in the San Francisco Bay Area and Central Valley colleges.

The colleges in the Central Valley were not used to a black artist especially a black female artist, but that did not stop her. She took several classes but enjoyed the environment that Contra Costa College in San Pablo, Ca. provided her. There, she was inspired by the predominantly African American student body and staff.

She had the honor and privilege to be a student in the famous Bay Area playwright, Ed Bullins' African American Humanities class.

From there, she attended Cal State Universities and majored in Fine Arts and Business. Ms. Phillips took a long break from her studies to raise her son and work corporately and partner with business ventures.

Ms. Phillips has been a "Jacqueline of all trades" throughout the years. She's worked for production companies in Oakland, Ca where she has reproduced black art for their clientele e.g. african american art drawings on marble. She's operated her own company, "Tee's Artistry" and produced paintings, portrait drawings and sculptures for family, friends and peers in the late 1980's thru the 1990's. These images portrayed the black experience and what we call "black art".

Ms. Phillips has written two unpublished books: one fictional book and a book of poetry. These projects are in the process of being published. She's even been a literary agent for 3 years for a San Francisco native author on their fictional book projects. She is now a contributing writer for Vision Fine Art Magazine and editor and book cover artist for a hot, new novel by Carla P. Jewel ... coming soon!

She's co-founded companies like Socketronics and Mega World Enterprises where she was the Chief Financial Officer for both. Mega World Enterprises is now WorldDynamicRadio.

Ms. Phillips has been employed and worked in upper management positions for Fortune 500 companies, major retailers and restaurants starting at the age of 19.

She is now also owns an internet marketing company that empowers others to build wealth in this troubling economy.

Whether it was her own business or corporate positions, Ms. Phillips has the background and experience she needs to move forward in the business industry and coupling that with her passion for black art

Ms. Tina Phillips will open new and cultural-based African American art gallery.

This is why Expressive Visions will be like no other company expressing the vision of the African American community through art

So stay tuned for exciting projects and "expressive visions" right here!

About Ex Vi and ExViGalleries

About Ex Vi and ExViGalleries- (African American Art

Expressive Visions was created from a dream and passion that our founder and president, Tina M. Phillips has for African American art. African American art has shaped our history and culture for decades. Expressive Visions wants to expose our artistic talents to the world in a more global aspect than its ever been done before.

Expressive Visions was founded in 2005 by President and Founder Tina M. Phillips. Expressive Visions is an online art gallery store and resource website. It will feature African American art from all over the world. The art includes African American themes like spiritual, religious, musical, sports, family and children images, to mention a few. Expressive Visions will not display or sell pornographic images of any kind.

Expressive Visions

is in business to expose the unique and extraordinary God-given talents of African American artists of the African American community. We want to put on display some of the most talented artists in African American art history. We will also acknowledge and manage up and coming artists around the world. Though the world of art in America does not always recognize African American artists, Expressive Visions will collaborate with other businesses and artists to make them known worldwide. The world will come to see that these artists are innovative, passionate, well talented, educated and trained. Many artists have had institutional training in the art field and some are self-taught artists. It has been proven that a talent can be learned or simply born of the artist. In either case, the talents have been developed to show significant excellence and meaning.
Now, that's God-given!
The vision behind this is the passion that we have for African American art and the gift God has placed inside the artist to inspire the world from the paint brush to the canvas. Artists will gain exposure via this web site and onsite art galleries. We are based online and in Dallas, Texas and will expand in the next few years to a Los Angeles area and San Francisco-Oakland Bay Area.
Expressive Visions is the mother company for other projects like our upcoming art gallery, Ex Vi Galleries, homeless relief programs, educational institutions and state-of-the-art shopping malls and plazas.
The name 'Ex-Vi' comes from the first 2 letters of 'expressive' and the first 2 letters of 'visions'. It is pronounced {X-Vi, 'vi' like 'pie' . Ex Vi will be the newest African American art gallery forth coming soon. It will facilitate art from all over the world. We are very excited to know that several artists have accepted an invitation to display their art on our website. Please stayed tuned and click here again for artists selection right here.

African American artists will have a gallery and call their own when Ex Vi Gallery's location comes into existence. Many black artists want a professional and modern art gallery. Ex Vi plans will fulfill that desire and make appealing for the eye as it can be!
