Kadir Nelson's Black Heritage Stamp Unveiled in Birmingham

The United States Postal Service unveils a new stamp in Birmingham. According to Birmingham News, The U.S. Postal Service has unveiled in Birmingham on October 6, 2008. It is the 32nd stamp in its Black Heritage series.

This stamp honors Anna Julia Cooper. It will also be displayed at the 92nd anniversary reception for the Journal of African-American History for the first time.

History on Anna Julia Cooper:

Julia Cooper fought for social justice and civil rights for all black women, as well as young people. She fought for the poor through her scholarship, community outreach and innovative educational leadership.

This stamp features a beautiful portrait of Julia Cooper created by black artist Kadir Nelson.
